What is telematics?
‘Telematics’ is just another word for the technology we use to receive your journeys to see what your driving style looks like.
Using some smart motion sensors and other clever gizmos, Carrot’s telematics device collects and sends journey information to us. It measures things like acceleration, braking, swerving, time of day and length of journeys that you make. We use this information to calculate your Driving Score.

How does the self install device (Theo) and app work?
Theo is a telematics device that looks at your driving behaviour and sends insights to the Better Driver by Carrot app.
This innovative technology keeps you informed by sending notifications if it detects risky driving behaviour, such as speeding or harsh braking. It’s easy to use and provides a driving score based on your performance.
You could receive a percentage off your renewal rate if you have a good score at the end of your policy.
Can I earn no claims discount with Carrot?
Yes, and we'll apply this when calculating your renewal premium.

What should I do if someone else plans to drive my car?
If someone else plans to drive your car, they'll need to be added to your policy as a named driver. It's also worth letting them know there's a black box fitted, as their driving will be recorded too. Because we can't tell who was behind the wheel, any journeys they make could affect your driving score, renewal price and cover. As the policyholder, you're responsible for any journeys made in your car.
What happens if I go over the speed limit?
We want to reward safe driving and may stop providing cover where dangerous or repeated speeding puts others at risk. Our aim is to encourage responsible driving habits and help make the roads safer for everyone.
